We have selected two excellent blends of Italian Varietals for April. These wines are made by one of our very favorite winemakers and growers, Greg Graziano of Mendocino California. Greg’s family came to Mendocino from Italy in 1900 and started growing grapes and producing wine. In 1988 Greg started his own winery and vineyards and produces wine under four labels, St. Gregory, Monte Volpe, Enotria and Graziano. The wines we have selected are from his Monte Volpe line. Monte Volpe means Fox Mountain in Italian.
Monte Volpe Primo Bianco is a blend of Arneis, Cortese, Pinot Grigio, Tocai Friulano, Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc. This pale yellow wine has a nose of fresh fruit,
spice and minerals, flavors of melon, grapefruit and lime. The finish is crisp and clean. A great match for any poultry or seafood.
Monte Volpe Primo Rosso is a blend of Barbera, Dolcetto, Sangiovese, Petite Sirah, Carignane, Negroamaro and Zinfandel. It has a deep ruby color, jammy aromas and flavors of blackberries, raspberries and plums. It’s mild tannins and great balance make for a very pleasing finish. Excellent with red meat or hearty pasta dishes.
The price for this pair is $29.98 plus tax.
